Trump knocks ‘out of control and very corrupt’ prosecutor after Georgia indictment

Former President Trump knocked Fulton County, Ga., District Attorney Fani Willis (D) as “out of control and very corrupt” after she unveiled an indictment late Monday charging him and 18 alleged co-conspirators with crimes related to a conspiracy to overturn the results of the 2020 election in Georgia.

“So, the Witch Hunt continues! 19 people Indicated tonight, including the former President of the United States, me, by an out of control and very corrupt District Attorney who campaigned and raised money on, ‘I will get Trump.,’” Trump wrote on Truth Social early Tuesday morning.

“And what about those Indictment Documents put out today, long before the Grand Jury even voted, and then quickly withdrawn? Sounds Rigged to me! Why didn’t they Indict 2.5 years ago?” he added. “Because they wanted to do it right in the middle of my political campaign. Witch Hunt!”

The case marks the fourth criminal indictment unveiled against Trump since April and represents the broadest-reaching set of charges yet. The Georgia indictment, which charges 19 defendants with racketeering and other related charges, brings 13 new counts against Trump, including making false statements and impersonating a public officer.

More indictment coverage:

In the hours after Willis announced her broad indictment against the former president, Trump and his allies unleashed a barrage of attacks, many of which echo claims about the indictment that he made before it was unveiled.

Trump, who is the current front-runner in the 2024 Republican primary, sent out fundraising emails for his campaign shortly after the indictment was reported, calling the case “election interference” and casting blame on the Biden administration, even though the case was brought by Georgia prosecutors.

The latest indictment, Trump wrote in the email, represents “the FOURTH ACT of Election Interference on behalf of the Democrats in an attempt to keep the White House under Crooked Joe’s control and JAIL his single greatest opponent of the 2024 election.”

He continued to make similar claims late Monday night into Tuesday morning.

In an exclusive Fox News Digital interview following news of the indictment, Trump called the case “a continuation of the greatest and longest-running Witch Hunt in American history.”

“Nineteen people were indicted, and the whole world is laughing at the United States as they see how corrupt and horrible a place it has turned out to be under the leadership of Crooked Joe Biden,” Trump said in the interview.

Trump repeated attacks on Willis, telling the outlet, “The racist and corrupt district attorney of Fulton County, which has turned out to be a murder capital of the world with among the highest violent crime levels anywhere in our country, just opened a fundraising site in order to benefit off the things she most campaigned on, ‘I will get Donald Trump.'”

“This politically-inspired indictment, which could have been brought close to three years ago, was tailored for placement right smack in the middle of my political campaign, where I am leading all Republicans — by a lot — and beating Joe Biden soundly in almost all polls,” he added.
