Abbe Lowell, an attorney for Hunter Biden, said Sunday that any connections involving President Biden to his son’s foreign business dealings “doesn’t exist” in the face of numerous allegations made by House Republicans investigating the family’s finances.

CBS’s Margaret Brennan on “Face the Nation” asked Lowell whether the president was “completely walled off from Hunter’s business affairs, noting that the question was at the center of congressional probes.

“I understand and my opinion doesn’t matter,” Lowell responded. “What matters is the facts and the evidence. And the facts and the evidence that have been pursued by however many members of Congress and their staffs and media, looking for any possible connection has shown time and time again — it doesn’t exist.”

“…[W]hen the president calls his son every day and it goes on the speakerphone, he says hello to the people in the room – that is not an offense,” he continued. “That is nothing other than a loving father.”

House Republicans have launched congressional probes into Hunter Biden’s business dealings with an aim to connected President Biden to foreign influence while he served as vice president. The federal charges against Hunter Biden, however, stem only from tax and gun charges. President Biden has denied any improper influence.

Hunter Biden’s plea deal involving tax and gun charges was put on hold last month after the judge presiding over the case questioned the parameters around the deal announced in June. He was expected to plead guilty to two misdemeanor counts of willful failure to pay income taxes as part of the deal, but instead pleaded not guilty after the deal was put on hold in order for both sides to hash out another deal.

Attorney General Merrick Garland elevated U.S. Attorney for Delaware David Weiss to special counsel last week, a move that many Republicans have also criticized.
