New regs for Tuesday: Wolves, cosmetics, trucks

The regulations in Tuesday’s edition of the Federal Register address cosmetics, endangered wolves and truck and bus drivers.

Here’s what is happening:

Trucks: The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is delaying new rules for truck drivers.

The FMCSA issued the training requirements for entry-level truck and bus drivers who operate commercial motor vehicles in December. This is the third time the agency has delayed the rules.

The training requirements are now scheduled to go into effect on June 5.

Cosmetics: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is planning to examine its cosmetic labeling rule.

Under the cosmetics rule, companies must disclose product information on the label. But the FDA is proposing a routine information collection request that could lead to potential changes in the rule.

The public has 60 days to comment.

Wolves: The Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is considering changes to the existing protections for North Carolina red wolves.

These red wolves have been listed as endangered since the 1970s.

The FWS issued an advance notice of proposed rulemaking  on Monday as it prepares for potential changes to how it handles the “non-essential experimental population” of these red wolves.

The agency plans to conduct an environmental review.

The public has 60 days to comment.
