Monday’s edition of the Federal Register contains fewer protections for wolves and bus passengers.
Here’s what is happening:
Wolves: The Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is removing protections for gray wolves in Wyoming.
Following an appeals court ruling, the FWS is moving forward with a plan to no longer list these wolves as a non-essential experimental population.
The changes go into effect immediately.
Bus: The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is withdrawing bus safety regulations.
The FMCSA issued an advance notice of proposed rulemaking last April to establish annual inspections of passenger-carrying commercial motor vehicles.
But after further consideration, the FMCSA determined Friday there is not enough evidence to move forward with the inspection requirements.
The rule withdrawal goes into effect immediately.
Trucks: The FMCSA will also exempt 97 truck drivers who suffer from insulin-treated diabetes mellitus from rules that would otherwise prohibit them from operating a commercial motor vehicle between states.
The agency determined these are safe drivers who do not present any added danger on the roads.
The exemptions are already in effect.
