Trump touts ‘historic’ deregulatory efforts

President Trump touted his “historic effort” to eliminate regulations Tuesday evening during his first address to Congress.

“We have undertaken a historic effort to massively reduce job-crushing regulations,” Trump told lawmakers.

Since his inauguration, Trump has set quickly begun toppling regulations.

{mosads}Trump’s regulatory moratorium has significantly slowed the pace of rulemaking in Washington. The president also signed an executive order requiring federal agencies to eliminate two regulations for each new rule they issue.

On Friday, Trump issued another executive order requiring federal agencies to create “deregulatory” task forces responsible for eliminating outdated and unnecessary rules.

Trump has also teamed with Republicans in Congress to tackle a series of regulations enacted in the final days of the Obama administration. This includes overturning two environmental rules opposed by the energy industry: The Interior Department’s stream protection rule and the Securities and Exchange Commission’s foreign-payment disclosure rule for oil companies operating overseas.

“We’re going to stop the regulations that threaten the future and livelihoods of our great coal miners,” Trump said during the speech. “We have cleared the way for the construction of the Keystone and Dakota Access pipelines — thereby creating tens of thousands of jobs — and I’ve issued a new directive that new American pipelines be made with American steel.”
