New regs for Tuesday: Ozone, gas, nuclear

Tuesday’s edition of the Federal Register contains new rules for ozone-depleting substances, as well as guidelines for liquefied natural gas protects and nuclear power plants.

Here’s what is happening:

Ozone: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is moving forward with new rules for ozone-depleting substances, despite President Trump’s regulatory moratorium.

The FDA issued a direct final rule last October to update the ozone-depleting substances regulation for chlorofluorocarbons. The White House’s Office of Management and Budget reviewed the rule and determined it should be “excluded” from Trump’s moratorium.

The rule has already gone into effect.

Gas: The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is moving forward with new guidelines for gasoline companies preparing environmental reports.

FERC’s guidance will inform companies how “liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects may demonstrate compliance with certain regulatory requirements,” the agency said Monday.

Nuclear: The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is moving forward with new guidelines for nuclear power plants.

The NRC on Monday revised the agency’s guidelines for radioactive waste from nuclear power plants.
