New York Knicks owner gave $300K to pro-Trump group
New York Knicks owner James Dolan donated more than $300,000 to a pro-Donald Trump group less than two months before Trump was elected president.
Dolan donated $300,000 to the group “Trump Victory” last September and another $2,700 — the maximum contribution allowed — directly to Trump’s campaign, the New York Daily News reported Thursday.
News of Dolan’s donation comes amid near-universal opposition to Trump around the NBA. Star players including LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Carmelo Anthony have been publicly critical of the president’s policies, as have head coaches Gregg Popovich, Steve Kerr and Stan Van Gundy.
{mosads}James, the basketball league’s biggest star, endorsed Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton before the election and campaigned with her in his home state of Ohio.
Anthony, who publicly ripped Trump the day after his election, plays for Dolan’s team.
Dolan has previously contributed to campaigns on both sides, backing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R), Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and former Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.).
