American Airlines issues deadline for employee vaccinations

American Airlines on Wednesday in an email informed all U.S. employees that they must submit evidence of being fully vaccinated by Nov. 24 or face termination, according to multiple reports.

American Airlines is classified as a government contractor and therefore is required to follow President Biden’s vaccine mandate, according to WCNC Charlotte

According to the airline, many of their employees who previously submitted their vaccine records will have to resubmit proof of vaccination. The exception to resubmission is crew members, who were required to keep their vaccine records on file because of international travel requirements. Any other employee will need to resubmit their vaccine records.

The company said they will use the website Comply365 and a company portal to verify records, according to the letter.

Part of the letter sent out to employees read, “To be clear, if you fail to comply with the requirement, the result will be termination from the company.”

American Airlines did note two exceptions to the federal vaccine mandate, including medical exemptions and religious exemptions.

To further encourage the vaccinations, American is giving newly vaccinated employees an extra paid vacation day and $50 in Nonstop Thanks points to U.S. employees who submit their vaccine paperwork by the deadline.
