United Airlines on Monday said it is hoping to boost demand by adding flights to countries that are loosening COVID-19 restrictions for vaccinated travelers.
The airline is adding countries like Iceland, Croatia and Greece that have scaled back their COVID-19 travel restrictions or are expected to do so in the coming weeks.
Croatia, for example, allows visitors who can show proof of a negative coronavirus test or proof of vaccination.
“As countries around the world begin the process of reopening, leisure travelers are eager to take a long-awaited getaway to new international destinations,” said Patrick Quayle, vice president of international network and alliances, in a statement.
“These three new routes unlock the natural beauty of the outdoors for our guests. They are also the latest example of how United is remaining nimble in rebuilding our network.”
The announcement comes as most of Europe is still off limits to U.S. citizens. Airline executives are still largely pessimistic that the industry will see much of a rebound over the summer, when many Americans fly to vacation destinations in the U.S. and overseas.
