Southwest jet with broken window lands safely after being diverted

A Southwest Airlines flight bound for Newark, N.J., diverted to a landing in Cleveland on Wednesday due to a broken window pane, the airline confirmed.

A spokesperson for Southwest said no injuries were reported and emphasized that the incident was not an emergency landing.

{mosads}”The flight landed uneventfully in Cleveland. The aircraft has been taken out of service, and our local Cleveland Employees are working diligently to accommodate the 76 Customers on a new aircraft to Newark,” the spokesperson said.

“The Safety of our Customers and Employees is our number one focus each and every day.”

The aircraft took off from Chicago Midway International Airport and had been en route to Newark Liberty International Airport.

The diverted flight comes just two weeks after a woman died when a piece of a Southwest engine broke off, shattering a window and partly sucking the female passenger out of the aircraft.

Southwest accelerated engine inspections in response to the incident.

On Tuesday, President Trump met with pilot Tammie Jo Shults and other members of that Southwest crew in the Oval Office.

“Tammie did an incredible job,” Trump said, according to a White House pool report.

“Our hearts break for the family of the passenger who tragically lost her life,” he added.
