Rental car company Hertz is partnering with Uber to add up to 50,000 Tesla vehicles to the ride-hailing service by 2023 to allow Uber drivers to rent the vehicles, the companies announced.

The companies said Wednesday the deal will make Teslas available for drivers to rent through Uber in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and Washington, D.C., starting Nov. 1. A nationwide expansion of the program is expected in the coming weeks.

Hertz said the vehicles will come through initial orders and future orders as the program continues to grow.

“Today’s partnership with Uber is another major step forward in Hertz becoming an essential component of the modern mobility ecosystem and executing on our commitment to being an environmentally forward company,” Hertz’s interim CEO Mark Fields said in a statement.

“While most drivers who use Uber own their cars, many don’t. That’s why Hertz has worked with Uber to offer vehicle rental options since 2016,” Uber said in a press release.

The new deal comes days after Hertz announced it was making an investment in a electric vehicle rental fleet, ordering up to 100,000 Teslas by the end of 2022.

Both companies said the deal will offer consumers access to Tesla’s Supercharger network and Uber’s EVgo discounts as well as financial benefits through Uber’s Green Future initiative.
