Ford recalling 1M trucks over doors that could open while driving

Ford Motor Company is recalling 1.3 million trucks over a safety issue that may cause vehicles’ doors to open while driving.

The automaker is recalling model year 2015 to 2017 F-150 trucks and model year 2017 Ford Super Duty trucks. Ford cited a “frozen door latch” or a “bent or kinked actuation cable,” which may prevent a vehicle’s doors from opening or closing.

The move is expected to cost the company’s North American unit an estimated $267 million in the final three months of the year.

{mosads}Even if customers are able to open and close the door, the latch may not fully engage, meaning the door could fling open while driving, Ford warned.

The automaker said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries associated with the latch issue.

Dealers can fix the issue by installing water shields over the door latches and repairing the door latch actuation cables, at no cost to the customer.
