Air traffic control center evacuation delays flights in DC area

Fumes forced the evacuation of a Federal Aviation Administration air traffic control center in Leesburg, Va., on Monday evening, delaying flights in the area, according to multiple reports.

The facility was evacuated at around 6:30 p.m. after people inside complained about fumes, the Loudoun County fire department told The Washington Post.

The department was on the scene until about 7:15 p.m.

{mosads}Roof work prompted the evacuation after fumes entered the building, NBC4 reported. The building is being ventilated so flight controllers can return as soon as possible.

There are delays at Reagan National Airport, Dulles International Airport and Baltimore-Washington International Marshall Airport, according to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.
