A United Airlines flight out of Houston was delayed Thursday evening after a scorpion crawled out of a passenger’s clothing, USA Today reported Friday, the second time this year one of the stinging arachnids has tried to fly United.

Paramedics examined the passenger but determined that he had not been stung, according to a statement released by United Thursday night. The episode delayed the plane’s departure for Ecuador for three-and-a-half hours.

“Houston to Quito Flight 1035 returned to the gate after a scorpion reportedly emerged from a customer’s clothing,” United said in the statement. “Paramedics at the gate immediately examined the customer and determined that he had not been stung.”

The incident on Thursday was the second time in less than a month that a scorpion had been reported on a United flight.

Last month, a passenger was stung by a scorpion after one fell from the overhead bin on a flight from Houston to Calgary.

United has faced intense scrutiny in recent weeks after a passenger was violently dragged off a flight at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. The passenger, 69-year-old David Dao, had reportedly refused to give up his seat on the flight to make room for a United employee before being removed from plane.
