Feds launch investigation after Pence plane skids off runway
A federal safety agency is investigating why a charter plane carrying Republican vice presidential candidate Mike Pence skidded off the runway at New York’s LaGuardia Airport on Thursday.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced it was sending a “go team” of investigators on Friday morning to the scene, which prompted a temporary closure of the entire airport.
No passengers were injured in the incident.

{mosads}Pence was traveling from Iowa to New York when his charter plane overshot the runway as it landed. There were 37 passengers on board, including some of Pence’s family members, aides, Secret Service personnel and reporters.
Emergency vehicles came to the aircraft, but passengers evacuated through the back of the plane on their own.
Pence said he feels blessed that there were no injuries and expressed gratitude for everyone’s concern.
“It was about 10 seconds of uncertainty,” Indiana’s governor said on “CBS This Morning” Friday. “Once we were on the ground, you could tell they were trying to brake [and] stop the aircraft as quickly as possible. It slid back and forth a little bit then left the runway, but all are well.”
