Baltimore subway stations closed amid riots

Maryland officials have closed three stations on Baltimore’s subway system amid widespread rioting in the city following the death of 25-year-old resident Freddie Gray in police custody.

Officials with the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) said Tuesday that a trio of stations on Baltimore’s Metro Subway that near the center of police activity would be closed on Tuesday, but the agency said trains would continue to operate on the remainder of the line.

{mosads}“Metro Subway is operating however Mondawmin, Upton, and Penn-North Stations are temporarily closed,” the agency said. “We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause and appreciate your patience during this time.” 

The Baltimore Metro Subway is a single line that runs east-west through the city and connects to the city’s light rail system downtown.

The subway typically carries about 51,000 passengers on an average weekday.
