Airlines cancel 4K flights amid East Coast snow
Airlines canceled 4,480 flights on Sunday and Monday amid a large snowstorm that has impacted major cities in the Northeast, according to the website FlightAware.com.
Snow fell as far south as North Carolina during the storm, with the Washington, D.C. and New York City areas receiving between four and six inches, according to the Weather Channel.
Airlines have responded to the storm, which has been dubbed “Winter Storm Octavia,” with widespread flight cancellations at major airport hubs like Charlotte, N.C. Douglas International Airport and D.C’s Ronald Reagan National Airport.
{mosads}The FlightAware website said airlines have canceled 2,690 flights that were scheduled for Sunday and 1,795 Monday due to the storm. Another 4,481 flights Monday were delayed because of the storm, according to the site.
The leading airport for cancellations on Monday was Charlotte’s Douglas International Airport, which had 159 outgoing and 180 inbound flights cancelled.
Washington’s Reagan National, New York’s LaGuardia Airport, Nashville International Airport and North Carolina’s Raleigh-Durham International Airport rounded out the top five on the delay list Monday.
