Massive search suspended for missing AirAsia jetliner

Massive search operations have been suspended for a missing AirAsia flight carrying 162 people that disappeared between Indonesia and Singapore.

Darkness forced authorities to end their search on Sunday. It will be resumed in the morning.

{mosads}Authorities are searching an area of the Java Sea for the missing jet, an Airbus A320-200 that went missing two hours into its flight. No distress signal was made.

Pilots flying from Surabaya, Indonesia’s second-largest city, to Singapore had requested a shift in their flight path because of bad weather.

They had requested to fly above 38,000 feet to escape the bad weather, according to CNN. The plane was last heard from at about 7:24 EST.

The governments of Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore are all involved in the search.

The disappearance comes about 10 months after a Malaysian jetliner disappeared over the South Indian Sea. That wreckage has still not been found.

President Obama has been briefed on the disappearance of the flight, according to the White House.
