Trucking lobby extends chief’s contract

The American Trucking Association (ATA) is extending the contract of its president, Bill Graves, for two years, the organization announced on Monday.

Graves, a former governor of Kansas, has been at the helm of the trucking association since 2003.

ATA Board of Directors Chairman Phil Byrd said the former governor-turned-trucking advocate has done a good job advancing the industry’s agenda in his more than a decade at the wheel.

Graves’ leadership, ATA has undertaken a number of initiatives to position the association as the leader in advocacy on behalf of trucking and transportation,” Byrd said in a statement. “We are thrilled that he will remain as the face of our advocacy in Washington for the foreseeable future.”

Graves, who was profiled by The Hill in July, said he was glad to be staying in Washington to advocate for trucking companies.

“I am tremendously proud of what we have accomplished at ATA in my almost 12 years here,” he said in a statement. “And I am excited to see what we can accomplish in the coming years.”
