Southwest suspends pilot involved in wrong airport landing

Southwest Airlines has suspended the pilots of its flight that landed at the wrong airport in Missouri over the weekend, the airline has announced.

The flight, which was flying from Chicago’s Midway Airport, was supposed to arrive at the Branson, Mo., airport. But instead, it touched down at the nearby Taney County airport.

Southwest said the plane was inspected before being returned to service on Monday afternoon.

{mosads}The airline said it was supporting investigations of the incident by the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration.

“The pilots are currently on paid leave, pending the conclusion of the investigation,” Southwest said in a statement. “We want to, again, thank responders and Branson Airport Administrators for joining in the work with our ground operations staff to immediately take care of our Customers and their baggage last night. We have since reached out to each Customer directly to apologize, refund their tickets, and provide future travel credit as a gesture of goodwill for the inconvenience.”
