TSA identifies agents wounded at LAX

The Transportation Security Administration has identified two of its agents who were wounded in the shooting Friday at the Los Angeles International Airport.

TSA officials said the victims who survived the Friday shooting were 54-year-old James Speer and 36-year-old Tony Grigsby.

The TSA said over the weekend that the LAX shooting victim who died was 39-year-old Gerardo Hernandez.

{mosads}The shooter has previously been identified as 23-year-old Paul Anthony Ciancia of New Jersey. Ciancia allegedly targeted TSA workers with a rifle, carrying a hand-written note that said he “wanted to kill TSA and pigs,” according to reports.

TSA Administrator John Pistole said in a news conference over the weekend that he had met with relatives of all three of the agency’s workers who were shot.

“On behalf of the thousands of hard-working men and women of TSA from around the country, I am here to offer our deepest condolences to the family of Transportation Security Officer Hernandez,” Pistole said. “I met with his widow and children earlier today and expressed our condolences, but not only on behalf of everybody from TSA, but from the president who called me last night to offer his condolences.”

Pistole added that he was meeting with the TSA’s other employees at LAX who might have been impacted by the Friday shooting.

“Also, I’m here to meet with the other victims who were shot, the TSA employees and their families, later today, again to offer assistance, to hear what happened from their perspective, and also to meet with the LAX TSA employees, again to offer assistance, whether it is employee counseling or whatever other assistance that TSA may be able to provide given the significance of this event,” Pistole continued.

“As we know, this is the first TSA employee killed in the line of duty. It is a significant event for us from the standpoint of how do we best work with airport police, both here at LAX and around the country,” he said.
