DoorDash to require all employees to make deliveries again
San Francisco-based delivery company DoorDash will require all employees to make deliveries under its reinstated WeDash program, a spokesperson confirmed Wednesday.
DoorDash started the program when the company first launched in 2013, but had paused it “for a bit” during the pandemic, the spokesperson said.
“It’s a great program that reflects our values, brings us closer to the product and helps us build empathy for all our audiences,” the spokesperson said in an email.
The program will require all employees, including the company’s engineers and even CEO, to make at least one delivery a month. Any money employees earn from participating is donated to a nonprofit, a spokesperson told CNN Business.
Some DoorDash employees are saying they’re not happy about the return of the program, SFGate reported. The outlet cited a thread of posts on an anonymous platform for tech employees, called Blind.
The original poster in the thread claimed that the monthly delivery was not part of their job description. Some users on the post said the program would be a helpful opportunity to empathize with and learn more about frustrations of delivery workers, but others chimed in to agree with the original poster’s negative outlook on the program, SFGate reported.
The DoorDash spokesperson said the “sentiment” in the post cited in the SFGate report “is not a reflection of the employee base at large.”
“This is a valued program we’ve had since the company’s inception,” the spokesperson added.
