Yang’s new party will be called ‘The Forward Party’
Former presidential candidate Andrew Yang’s new third party will be called “The Forward Party,” he reportedly says in his upcoming book.
Business Insider reported that the name was revealed near the end of Yang’s book entitled “Forward: Notes on the Future of Our Democracy.”
The book also details the principles that will guide Yang’s party, including “ranked-choice voting and open primaries,” “fact-based governance” and “human-centered capitalism.” It will also promote a “universal basic income,” an idea that helped him gain some traction in the 2020 presidential primary.
Yang also criticizes the “duopoly” of America’s two-party system which he claimed was not made to handle the “cascade of crises” that the U.S. has recently endured, Business Insider said.
“The dysfunction is going to kill us,” Yang says in the book, according to Business Insider. “Worse, there’s no reason to think that it will change. The two sides will be trapped in a war that both sides win—they will still be hovering in one of the most affluent areas in the country trading power—but the people will lose.”
After his failed 2020 presidential bid, which survived longer than some more established candidates, Yang unsuccessfully vied to be New York City’s mayor.
His book is scheduled for release on Oct. 5.
