Facebook is slated to roll out a newsletter feature this week.

The new platform, called Bulletin, will allow creators the ability to author and distribute both free and subscriber-based content via Facebook.

CNN reported the new feature is essentially Facebook’s version of the popular newsletter platform Substack and has recruited dozens of writers, across categories like sports, science, health, and finance, sources told the network.

Recode reported this month that “Facebook is deliberately trying to avoid political writers and subjects on Bulletin.”

The social media company has faced growing pressure in recent years from lawmakers and activists to slow the spread of misinformation and hate speech on its platforms.

The company recently upheld a two-year ban on former President Trump for his posts peddling conspiracy theories and unfounded claims about the 2020 presidential election. Twitter placed a similar ban on the former president earlier this year.

Facebook has 2.85 billion users worldwide, Recode reported, adding that and a newsletter feature would give the company an “ability to target and segment people who might be receptive to reading and paying for a newsletter that covers topics they’re interested in.”
