Spotify launches live, interactive audio feature

Spotify launched a live, interactive audio feature on Wednesday, following its acquisition of the sports-focused audio platform Locker Room.

Spotify’s launch of its Greenroom comes as other platforms, including Facebook and Twitter, have launched rival interactive audio features amid the rising success of Clubhouse this year.

Spotify’s Greenroom builds off its acquisition in March of Betty Labs, the creators of the Locker Room audio app. The music streaming platform said at the time of the acquisition that it was planning to launch an interactive audio experience.

Greenroom will be available on iOS and Android in more than 135 markets globally as of Wednesday, the company said.

The feature will allow users to host or participate in live rooms, similar to how Clubhouse functions.

Spotify also announced that it is launching a Spotify Creator Fund that aims to help live audio creators monetize their work. The creator fund will open later this summer, according to the company.
