Zuckerberg launches new Instagram features for creators to generate revenue

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Tuesday that Instagram will soon launch new features for creators to generate revenue on the app.

Zuckerberg told Adam Mosseri, head of the Facebook-owned social platform, in an Instagram Live that monetization is an important part of the platform’s future.

“If this is going to be people’s job, they need to be able to make money doing it,” Zuckerberg said.

Creator shops are one of the ways Zuckerberg sees users making money on the platform. They allow people to directly sell items to their followers through Instagram.

Another option for creators is an affiliate marketplace where they can make money from sales of items they promote.

The last feature discussed was one with a “marketplace matching up creators with branded content.”

Creators can already make money from sponsorships on Instagram by posting content for a specific company, but the transaction does not happen directly through Instagram.

This feature would allow creators to be found easily by brands, with the transactions going through the app as well.

Zuckerberg did not say when these features would be released.

“We’re gonna build that out, and it’s going to have very favorable terms for the creators, so we’re not building this from the perspective of us trying to make more money,” Zuckerberg said.
