Amazon is acquiring the podcast network Wondery, expanding on its collection of audio content, the tech giant announced Wednesday.
Amazon launched podcasts earlier this year and, with the acquisition of Wondery, the company said it plans to expand on podcasts through Amazon Music.
The deal is pending usual closing conditions, but when it closes Amazon said “nothing will change for listeners” and users will be able to connect to access Wondery podcasts through a variety of providers.
“Together with Wondery, we will continue to bring more customers to streaming as we expand selection and ensure we are a destination for our customers to find, discover, and listen to the creators and artists they enjoy,” Amazon said in the announcement.
A spokesperson for Amazon declined to disclose the financial terms of the deal.
The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this month that Amazon was in talks to purchase Wondery in a deal worth more than $300 million.
Wondery launched in 2016 and describes itself as the “largest independent podcast publisher in the world.” Wondery has produced hit podcasts including “Dr. Death,” “Dirty John,” “American History Tellers” and “Business Wars.”
Amazon announced in September that podcasts would be available for users across all tiers of Amazon Music at no additional cost. In addition, the company announced it would be launching new original podcasts from creators such as DJ Khaled, Becky G and Dan Patrick.
In addition to the podcasts available through Amazon Music, Amazon also offers audio content through Audible. The Amazon-owned company hosts audiobooks and podcasts, including some content exclusively available on its platform.
