More than 400,000 ‘Game of Thrones’ fans petition show to redo final season

Fans of the hit HBO series “Game of Thrones” are expressing their ire at the show’s creators over the plot trajectory over the show’s final season — and some now want to see it completely redone.

A Change.org petition to “Remake Game of Thrones Season 8 with competent writers” launched earlier this week. It hit 300,000 signatures early Thursday morning before a CNN article apparently caused the signature total to spike: the number had crossed 530,000 by Thursday afternoon.

{mosads}A short description of the petition slams TV show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss as “woefully incompetent” writers who rushed the final season of the show due to a lack of source material from the book series’ creator, George R.R. Martin.

“This series deserves a final season that makes sense,” the petition’s author, identified as Dylan D., wrote on the website. “Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!”

The show’s final season has been widely anticipated. Last Sunday’s episode, “The Bells,” attracted a record 18.4 million viewers across HBO’s various streaming platforms.

Game of Thrones will air its final episode for the series on Sunday.

The show has become a cultural phenomenon during its run, even receiving notice from President Trump, who has posted Twitter messages featuring imagery inspired by the show despite protests from HBO executives.

In April, the network asked Trump to cease using the show’s intellectual property once again for his social media postings, writing: “Though we can understand the enthusiasm for Game of Thrones now that the final season has arrived, we still prefer our intellectual property not be used for political purposes.”
