YouTube’s ‘Rewind 2018’ becomes second most disliked video in its history
YouTube’s “Rewind 2018” video is now the second most disliked video on the platform and is on track to take first place.
The most disliked video of all time, Justin Bieber’s “Baby,” has 9.73 million dislikes and “YouTube Rewind 2018: Everyone Controls Rewind” is close behind at 7.2 million at the time of publication.
It is possible the platform’s annual wrap-up video will surpass “Baby,” having gained its 7.2 million dislikes in only four days.
{mosads}The video features celebrities including Will Smith and John Oliver as well as notable YouTubers who have worked in Hollywood, such as Casey Neistat, Lilly Singh and Liza Koshy.
“Rewind 2018” leaves out many of the most controversial moments from this past year from YouTube stars.
The video does not feature Logan Paul’s boxing match with fellow YouTuber KSI or the controversy surrounding Paul’s behavior in Japan’s Aokigahara forest, which led to him being briefly banned from the platform.
It also left out the ongoing battle between PewDiePie and Bollywood production company T-Series for platform dominance.
“Rewind 2018” has also been lambasted on Twitter, with users underscoring the gap between its portrayal of the platform and their experience of the community there.

A YouTube spokesperson told The Hill on Tuesday that the video is meant to be engaged with.
“Every year when we released our ‘Rewind’ video, our number one goal is getting the community to engage with it,” a spokesperson told The Hill in a statement. “This includes liking and disliking the video. With millions of comments, millions of likes and dislikes, and more than 100 [million] views, we’re pleased with the results.”
