Oracle executive complained to Trump about Amazon, bidding on massive Pentagon contract: report

The co-chief executive of Oracle Corp. reportedly complained to President Trump that the bidding process for a multibillion-dollar Pentagon cloud computing contract appeared to favor Amazon.

Safra Catz raised the issue with Trump during a dinner at the White House on Tuesday night, according to Bloomberg News. 

Trump listened to Catz’s concerns, but did not suggest that he would intervene in the bidding process for the contract, the news outlet reported.

Oracle is among the tech companies competing with Amazon for the Pentagon contract. According to Bloomberg, Catz did not underscore that fact in her conversation with the president.

Trump has repeatedly attacked Amazon on Twitter in recent days, accusing the tech giant of scamming the U.S. Postal Service and failing to collect some sales taxes.

The company’s stock value has taken a hit since Axios first reported last week that Trump had privately expressed a desire to “go after” Amazon.

Amazon controls a significant portion of the cloud computing market, and lawmakers and Amazon competitors, including Oracle, have voiced concerns about the potential multiyear Pentagon contract. 

Catz was among several tech executives to attend a meeting of Trump’s now-defunct American Technology Council last year. The panel was formed to advise the government on how to modernize its technology.
