Facebook said Monday that it will expand changes to its newsfeed algorithm that make it easier to find local news to users worldwide.
{mosads}The announcement comes two months after the social media company announced it would make it easier to find local news and announcements in users’ feeds and on the Facebook app.
Now it’s rolling that initiative out to Facebook users in all countries and languages.
“People around the world will see more news on Facebook from local sources,” Facebook said in a post.
The company’s announcement comes as it grapples with the controversy of how the data of 50 million Facebook users was improperly obtained by Cambridge Analytica, a British research firm that worked on President Trump’s 2016 campaign.
The company’s original announcement of its local news push came amid public scrutiny over how fake news disseminated on Facebook may have played a part in the 2016 presidential election.
