Dem FCC commish trolls chairman with Burger King mug

Mignon Clyburn, a Democratic commissioner for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), took a jab at Republican Chairman Ajit Pai for repealing net neutrality by drinking out of a Burger King mug on Tuesday.

Clyburn tweeted a photo of herself with the mug after the meeting.

“Had a craving for @BurgerKing during today’s @FCC Open Meeting,” Clyburn wrote, using the hashtag #NetNeutrality.

Burger King earlier this month released a pro-net neutrality video using the price of its Whopper burger to explain the potential implications of repealing the Obama-era rules.

The FCC voted last month to repeal net neutrality rules, which prevent internet service providers from prioritizing some online content.

Clyburn and the other Democrat on the commission, Jessica Rosenworcel, voted against the repeal.

Pai and Republicans pushed for repealing net neutrality, arguing the regulations were an overreach and deterred investment in broadband.

But consumer advocates and Democrats say the rules are needed to create a level playing field on the internet.

At least 22 state attorneys general are suing the FCC over the repeal, and some states have moved to implement their own net neutrality rules.
