Vine founder to work on follow-up app

The founder of Vine, the app that produced six-second videos that played on a loop online, announced Thursday that he will work on a follow-up to replace the now-defunct mobile application.

“[I]’m going to work on a follow-up to vine. i’ve been feeling it myself for some time and have seen a lot of tweets, dms, etc,” Dom Hofmann wrote on Twitter. 

[I]’m funding it myself as an outside project, so it doesn’t interfere with the (quite exciting) work we’re doing at the company, which is my first priority.”

{mosads}Hofmann said he had no additional information to provide about the future app at this time. 

Twitter, which owned Vine, announced last October that it would shut down the mobile app.

“We value you, your Vines, and are going to do this the right way. You’ll be able to access and download your Vines,” Vine wrote in a Medium post last year.

“We’ll be keeping the website online because we think it’s important to still be able to watch all the incredible Vines that have been made.”

The company archived the six-second videos earlier this year at the URL Vine.co.
