A top Uber executive is stepping down after the company discovered he had resigned from Google last year following a sexual harassment allegation against him, according to Recode.
Amit Singhal, who was Uber’s special vice president for engineering, reportedly failed to disclose the sexual harassment claim to the ride-sharing company when he was hired.
{mosads}Uber’s leadership apparently found out about the allegation when Recode inquired about it for its story.
Singhal denied the allegation in a statement to the tech news site.
“Harassment is unacceptable in any setting,” he wrote. “I certainly want everyone to know that I do not condone and have not committed such behavior.
“In my 20-year career, I’ve never been accused of anything like this before and the decision to leave Google was my own.”
The resignation comes in the wake of an unrelated controversy that has put Uber on the defensive. The company tapped former Attorney General Eric Holder to help lead an investigation into claims of sexism in the startup’s workplace culture, after a former engineer published a widely-read blog post detailing her difficulties in try to report sexual harassment.
