Mark Zuckerberg tells Facebook users to vote
Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg is urging the company’s American users to go out and vote.
“Voting is one of our great responsibilities as citizens in a democracy,” he said on Sunday. “Please make your voice heard and go vote.”
{mosads}His note, posted to his Facebook page, came as Facebook rolls out a page where users can find their polling place and see what will be on their ballot. It also lets them message their friends about when they’ll be voting.
The company also regularly sends users reminders to go vote.
“We’re now running a similar campaign to encourage people to actually go out and vote,” Zuckerberg said. “Based on our estimates, we hope to encourage millions of people who might otherwise stay home to get engaged on election day.”
Major technology companies like Facebook have engaged aggressively this year in turning out voters. Google, arguably Facebook’s major competitor, shows ballot and voting information directly in search results.
Internet companies have largely stayed neutral in the presidential race between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton.
Zuckerberg has, in the past, seemingly taken a shot at Trump’s hardline immigration stance. But he has declined to endorse in the race. When a user complained in the comments below his post that she felt as if both candidates were inadequate, Zuckerberg had a response.
“Life is about trade offs,” he said. Choose the best option.”
