Sprint, Yahoo join app group

The Application Developers Alliance added marquee names to its roster on Wednesday.

Yahoo, Sprint and Outfit7, which makes the Talking Tom franchise, joined the apps trade group to raise their voice about privacy, patent reform and other issues.

“Our newest members strengthen the App Developers Alliance as the voice of the industry,” Jon Potter, president of the group, said in a statement.

The Application Developers Alliance has more than 170 member companies, from small developers to tech titans like Google and Intel.

Yahoo and Sprint both have active app developer programs designed to help people create more apps and promote them to users.

“Yahoo! has a vibrant developer community, and we’re excited to support the Alliance,” Anil Patel, head of developer outreach and community at the company, said in a statement. “We look forward to having a seat at the table and being a part of the voice of our industry.”

The app alliance said it plans to partner up with Sprint to host an Innovation Academy event later this year. That event will aim to help more developers turn their apps into sustainable businesses, it said.
