Brad Parscale says Jan. 6 committee issued subpoena for his phone records

Former Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale on Wednesday revealed that the House select committee probing the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol has issued a subpoena for his phone records spanning from November through January.

Parscale told The Daily Beast late Wednesday night that his phone carrier sent him a notice earlier that day. He told the news outlet that he “just agreed,” but emphasized that he “had nothing to do with Jan. 6.”

“I have zero to hide,” Parscale told The Beast.

The Daily Beast noted that it has not viewed a copy of the subpoena.

Parscale announced in September 2020 that he was stepping away from his company and then-President Trump’s reelection campaign “to focus on my family and get help dealing with the overwhelming stress.”

That move came just days after reports surfaced that he was hospitalized in Florida following a tense exchange with police. He barricaded himself, while armed, in his home and threatened to harm himself.

Roughly two weeks earlier, Parscale was demoted from his status as campaign manager and replaced by Bill Stepien. Parscale remained on the team to lead the campaign’s digital strategy and serve as a senior adviser.

Asked about potentially testifying before the committee, Parscale told The Daily Beast, “All of this makes me think they want me to turn on him,” likely referring to Trump.

Pressed on if he would sit for an interview with the panel if asked, the former campaign manager did not respond.

Parscale is the latest known high-profile individual who was close to Trump to come under scrutiny by the committee.

Just before noon on Jan. 6, Parscale tweeted a “Statement to Trump,” in which he urged the then-president to run again even if he were to be impeached for a second time, which the House did days later.

“If they only impeached you twice, you need to run again. Because to change the system you have to kick it in the a#$. I would love to be the only President to be impeached three times. Because history remembers those that didn’t conform,” Parscale wrote. “I’m in, are you?”

In a separate tweet, Parscale said he would advise the president to “run on being impeached twice,” adding in a later post “They just don’t get it yet. They are about to make him a martyr.”

The House on Tuesday voted on Tuesday to hold former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows in contempt of Congress after he failed to sit for a scheduled deposition.

Meadows is the second individual to be held in criminal contempt by the House, joining ex-White House strategist Steve Bannon.

The select committee sent shockwaves through Washington earlier this week when it revealed text messages Meadows received from a variety of people as the Capitol riot was occurring, urging the then-chief of staff to have Trump tell his supporters to go home.

Meadows provided the text messages to the panel.

Conversations revealed included ones with Fox News’s Sean Hannity, Brain Kilmeade and Laura Ingraham, in addition to Donald Trump Jr., who were all encouraging Meadows to have Trump step in during the early hours of the attack.

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) revealed in a tweet last week that the select committee has already met with almost 300 witnesses and is “conducting multiple depositions and interviews every week.”

The Hill reached out to the select committee for comment.
