The man who said he had a bomb in his vehicle by the U.S. Capitol, causing the building to be evacuated, pleaded not guilty in court Wednesday.
Floyd Ray Roseberry pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction and attempted use of an explosive device, Reuters reported.
The hearing had been delayed in August after U.S. Magistrate Judge Zia Faruqui determined he could not understand the proceedings due to his bipolar disorder.
Faruqui decided to wait 30 days to see if new medication would help Roseberry. He was recently declared competent to stand trial by Teresa Grant.
“The new medication regime had stabilized his symptoms,” Faruqui said, according to Reuters.
Roseberry was taken into custody Aug. 19 after an hours-long standoff with police during which Roseberry allegedly said he had a bomb in his car.
After Roseberry surrendered, police did not find a bomb in his car but said they did find materials that could be used to make a bomb.
Roseberry is facing $500,000 in fines and potentially life in prison for his actions.
