New bodycam footage shows Jan. 6 attack on officer: ‘I got one’
Newly obtained body camera footage of Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Officer Michael Fanone being attacked during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot was exclusively aired by CNN on Wednesday, in which a rioter can be heard saying, “I got one.”
In the footage, which aired on “CNN Tonight with Don Lemon,” Fanone can be heard screaming and pleading with the rioters, at one point saying, “I have kids.”
One rioter appears to have tried to interject, saying “Don’t hurt him” and “We’re better than this.”
CNN reports that Fanone’s plea appeared to cause the rioters to pause for a moment. However, the officer has said that he was ultimately knocked unconscious while defending the Capitol, with his gear, badge, ammunition and police radio stolen from him.
Fanone has become one of the few officers who were at the Capitol on the day of the attack to speak publicly about his experience.
In a recent interview with Lemon on CNN, Fanone said he has suffered from PTSD and “emotional trauma” in the months following the riot. He also criticized lawmakers who sought to minimize the severity of the riot.
“Some of the terminology that was used, like ‘hugs and kisses’ and ‘very fine people,’ is very different from what I experienced and what my co-workers experienced on the 6th,” Fanone said.
On Wednesday Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.) further downplayed the events of Jan. 6, saying that images of the mob attacking police officers and looting from the Capitol looked like a “normal tourist visit.” Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) also questioned whether the rioters garbed in Trump and MAGA apparel were in fact supporters of former President Trump.

In April, three men — Albuquerque Cosper Head, Kyle James Young and Thomas Sibick — were charged for allegedly assaulting Fanone. Another man, Daniel Rodriguez of California, was arrested by FBI agents last month for allegedly assaulting Fanone.
