Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale on Tuesday said it’s time for the president to fire Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
{mosads}Parscale made the comment in a tweet that also called for the end of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. He said the recent report by the Department of Justice’s inspector general on how the FBI and Justice Department’s handled the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails gives Trump the justification to take action against Mueller.
“Time to fire Sessions, End the Mueller investigation,” Parscale tweeted. “You can’t obstruct something that was phony against you. The IG report gives @realDonaldTrump the truth to end it all.”
Parscale’s remarks come about a week after Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz issued a report that criticized the FBI’s handling of its investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server. Horowitz was critical of former FBI Director James Comey, with the report saying Comey broke with Justice Department norms in the agency’s investigation leading up to the 2016 presidential election.
The report, however, found no evidence of political bias by Comey, or by agent Peter Strzok and FBI lawyer Lisa Page who exchanged text messages at the time that revealed their opposition to Trump.
“I think that the report yesterday — maybe more importantly than anything — it totally exonerates me,” Trump said last week, even though the report does not address Mueller’s probe. “There was no collusion. There was no obstruction.”
Trump has reportedly considered firing Sessions, and he has repeatedly referred to Mueller’s Russia investigation as a “witch hunt.”
“I can’t think of something more concerning than a law enforcement officer suggesting that their going to use their powers to affect an election!” Trump tweeted on Tuesday. “Inspector General Horowitz on what was going on with numerous people regarding my election. A Rigged Witch Hunt!p”
