Paris attack suspect captured alive

A suspect in last year’s terrorist attacks in Paris was captured alive on Friday.

Salah Abdeslam, 26, was injured in a shootout with authorities in the Molenbeek area of Brussels, Belgium, but survived and was taken by authorities. Two others were wounded, CNN said.

Counterterrorism adviser Lisa Monaco briefed President Obama on the arrest of Abdeslam in Belgium, according to a White House official.

Belgian asylum and migration minister Theo Francken tweeted “we got him” in Dutch, an apparent reference to the capture.

{mosads}Abdeslam, a French national who grew up in Brussels, fled the scene of the November Paris attacks for Belgium by car. 

The Associated Press reported that five people were detained in raids in Brussels, including three who sheltered Abdeslam.

The coordinated attacks across Paris killed 130. Police believe he played a role in the logistics of the attacks and escorted three suicide bombers who blew themselves up outside of a stadium during a soccer game. 

His brother carried out a suicide attack at a Paris bar during the attacks.
