A tennis player was arrested in Paris during the French Open this week for allegedly being involved in a match-fixing scheme.

According to The Associated Press, Yana Sizikova of Russia was arrested on Thursday due to her suspected participation in match-fixing last year.

The Paris prosecutor’s office declined to identify Sizikova to the AP but confirmed that a “women’s international player” was taken into custody. The office also said that the player is facing charges of “sports bribery and organized fraud for acts.”

According to Reuters, an investigation was opened into the alleged match-fixing case during a women’s doubles match last September. The investigation was concerning a match between Andreea Mitu and Patricia Mari Țig of Romania and Sizikova and Madison Brengle, who is American.

Shamil Tarpischev, president of the Russian Tennis Federation, told RIA news agency that he was made aware of the situation but did not have any details, Reuters reported.

“We have not received any documents [regarding the case], so it’s difficult to make an assessment of what has happened,” Tarpischev reportedly told the outlet.
