Amid Brexit troubles, UK’s May faces no-confidence vote

British Prime Minister Theresa May faces a vote of no confidence that could see her removed from office amid struggles to negotiate Brexit.

Conservative lawmakers triggered the vote Wednesday after Graham Brady, who heads the committee that oversees leadership challenges, said he received letters from 48 lawmakers.

May told reporters that ousting her so close to the March 29 deadline for Brexit could throw the process into disarray.{mosads}

“A change of leadership in the Conservative Party now would put our country’s future at risk and create uncertainty when we can least afford it,” she said, according to Reuters.

“Weeks spent tearing ourselves apart will only create more division just as we should be standing together to serve our country.”

The vote will be held later Wednesday, with results to be announced soon after. A simple majority from her Conservative Party would be enough to have her removed.

May delayed the Parliament vote on her Brexit plan Monday after conservative backlash and general lack of confidence on its passage.
