Protestors reportedly blocked roads near Hong Kong’s airport on Sunday after violent clashes with police as anti-government demonstrations showed no signs of waning.
Some flights were still taking off and arriving at the airport, but protests led to train and some bus service cancellations that left some travelers walking to the airport pulling their luggage behind them, The Associated Press reports.
The MTR Corp. stopped train service and protestors blocked arriving buses, according to the news service. {mosads}
Parts of the subway system were also shut following violence in the system, Reuters reports.
At least 26 flights from Hong Kong and 17 to the city were cancelled, the AP reports, citing the South China Morning Post.
Police said they arrested 63 people ranging in age from 13 to 36, according to Reuters.
The protests intensified Saturday, as police reportedly fired tear gas and a water cannon at demonstrators.
Protestors have been demonstrating for nearly three months over a proposed extradition bill that would allow some citizens be extradited to mainland China. Chief Executive Carrie Lam suspended the bill, but protestors say that does not go far enough and are also calling for her to resign.
