N. Korea: Trump’s suggestion to meet Kim at DMZ is ‘very interesting’

North Korea reportedly called President Trump’s proposal to meet leader Kim Jong Un at the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) between North and South Korea a “very interesting suggestion.”

North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui said that the meeting could be “another meaningful occasion in further deepening the personal relations between the two leaders and advancing the bilateral relations,” The Associated Press reported, citing the state Korean Central News Agency.

Choe also said that the country had yet to receive an official meeting proposal. Observers told the AP that her statements suggest the nation might accept the idea if it receives a formal offer.{mosads}

Trump tweeted that he would meet with Kim at the DMZ to shake his hand after attending the Group of 20 summit in Japan this weekend. 

“After some very important meetings, including my meeting with President Xi of China, I will be leaving Japan for South Korea (with President Moon). While there, if Chairman Kim of North Korea sees this, I would meet him at the Border/DMZ just to shake his hand and say Hello(?)!” he tweeted. 

Trump previously told The Hill in an exclusive interview that he might meet with Kim.

“I’m gonna be there for a day. I understand that’s one of the places I’ll be visiting,” Trump said Monday. Asked whether he would meet the North Korean leader there if Kim offered to do so, Trump responded, “I might, yeah.”

The Hill delayed publishing news of the trip earlier in the week at the request of the White House, which expressed security concerns.
