Ukrainian Olympic competitor displays ‘No war in Ukraine’ sign

A Ukrainian Olympic competitor on Friday displayed a sign saying “No war in Ukraine” amid tensions between Ukraine and Russia.

Vladyslav Heraskevych’s held up a sign, which was printed in the colors of the Ukrainian flag, after he competed on Friday during the Winter Games, The Associated Press reported

Heraskevych could possibly get cited by the International Olympic Committee for rules against demonstrating or displaying political intentions.

The sign comes as many fear a Russian invasion into Ukraine is imminent, as Russia has amassed military equipment and more than 100,000 troops at Ukraine’s border.

Russia has demanded multiple concessions to pull back its forces, including Ukraine’s exclusion from NATO and Western countries pulling military operations out of Eastern Europe.

Western countries have said Russian demands are nonstarters in negotiations, but still insist on working out the issue through diplomacy.

Multiple foreign officials have visited Ukraine and Russia in the past few weeks in an attempt to avoid any physical conflict.

Western countries have said harsh sanctions will be placed on Russia if the nation invades, but have not pledged military support for Ukraine in the event of an attack.
