The Queen of Denmark tested positive for COVID-19, the royal court announced Wednesday.

Queen Margrethe, 81, is showing mild symptoms and is under quarantine in Amalienborg Palace, according to the court, Reuters reported.

The queen’s planned winter holiday to Norway was canceled due to her positive test.

The monarch’s coronavirus case comes after the country’s health minister warned about a new subvariant of the omicron variant of the virus.

“There is no evidence that the BA.2 variant causes more disease, but it must be more contagious,” Danish Health Minister Magnus Heunicke said.

Towards the end of January, Norway’s king was also diagnosed with the coronavirus

The 84-year-old king, Harald V, was experiencing cold symptoms when his diagnosis was first announced.
