An explosion occurred Saturday at an airport in Yemen killing at least eight people.

The explosion occurred at the international airport in the city of Aden, killing at least eight people and injuring 11 others in the blast, The Associated Press reported.

The explosion damaged buildings and broke windows of houses nearby, but the cause of the explosion is unclear.

A senior security source and a medical source told Reuters the explosion was caused by a small truck that blew up outside an airport gate.

The sources said the truck was carrying petroleum products, and it is not yet known if the blast was a premeditated attack.

Aden is the seat of the country’s government that is recognized internationally but has been the subject of attacks from separatist groups and Islamic State groups.

One group backed by Iran, the Houthis, launched an attack on a neighborhood outside the city of Taiz on Saturday that reportedly killed three children, according to the AP.

Six others were wounded in the attack on the neighborhood, Moammar al-Iryani, information minister for the government, said.

A previous attack on the airport in December that was conducted by the Houthis left 22 dead, according to Reuters.
