Truck shortages force BP to close some UK gas stations: report

Truck shortages have caused BP to close some gas stations in the United Kingdom on Thursday, according to Reuters.

“We are experiencing some fuel supply issues at some of our retail sites in the UK and unfortunately have therefore seen a handful of sites temporarily close due to a lack of both unleaded and diesel grades,” the oil company said in a statement, the news service reported.

“We continue to work with our haulier supplier to minimise any future disruption and to ensure efficient and effective deliveries to serve our customers,” the company added.

The company has 1,200 stations in the UK, saying the ones with the largest demand will see deliveries first during this shortage.

The shortage of truck drivers has been exacerbated by the pandemic and Brexit, which makes it harder for truck drivers from other countries to drive into the UK, according to Reuters.

The Petrol Retailers Association (PRA) said the shortage of trucks for the fuel issue is temporary and only affecting London and southeast England.

The Hill has reached out to BP for comment.
