Foreign leaders are sharing “get well” messages after President Trump and first lady Melania Trump tested positive for coronavirus late Thursday night.

“Like millions of Israelis, Sara and I are thinking of President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump and wish our friends a full and speedy recovery,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tweeted.

Taiwan’s foreign ministry also released a statement wishing the president well, adding the “government & people of Taiwan stand with the U.S. at this testing time.”

“COVID-19 is a battle we all continue to fight. Everyday. No matter where we live,” European Council President Charles Michel said in a tweet, also wishing the first couple a speedy recovery.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he and his wife Sophie hope the American first couple “have a full recovery from this virus.”

Through a spokesperson, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who has been reported to have a fraught relationship with Trump, said she sends “Donald and Melania Trump all my best wishes for a full and speedy recovery from their #COVID19 infection.”

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said he wished the Trumps a “full and speedy recovery.” Trump has been critical of the WHO throughout the pandemic, accusing them of favoring China.

The first couple’s diagnosis came hours after news broke that White House adviser and top aide to the president Hope Hicks tested positive for the disease

The first couple indicated that they are “feeling good” and quarantining for the next couple weeks. They are forgoing events for the next two weeks at least, which comes a month before the Nov. 3 election.
